October 24, 2004: Move along people, nothing to read here

I had one objective for today's ride: for there to be one. After a week of jet-setting and sightseeing and extravagant shows, I felt out of routine and out of shape. I needed a solid bike ride to get back in the swing of things.

The rainy season started a couple of days ago and I just didn't feel like hassling with the mud today, so I took the Hoo-E out for some road work. If there's no rain in the next couple of days and the winds keep blowing, I might be able to go for a trail ride later in the week.

I headed for the coastal bikepath and had made it as far as the southernmost EG stoplight before I realized that the cyclometer wasn't working. I have two Avocet 15 cyclometers, and one of them doesn't work right. I used to know which one was messed up, but for some stupid reason, I never took the battery out of it, or threw it away for that matter. It works, but it isn't calibrated correctly and can't be. So of course, I took the wrong one. No problem, I wheeled back home, got the right one and headed back to the bikepath.

I cruised down the bikepath with a strong tailwind (which I knew I would pay for on the return trip), taking advantage of the push to get all the way down the Cabrillo to Tunitas in pretty good time. I didn't really have enough daylight to do a full Lobitos loop, so I headed back up the Cabrillo to Verde where I swung off and took Verde to HP through town and back to the bikepath.

The skies were beautiful and clear today, but there was a tough wind blowing out the northwest. I encountered no wheeled prey or predators, nor any critters. I did get a bee sting on my right thigh.
